Day 6 – Arrive in Belize

Wednesday, July 29/09
Destination: Belize, Central America
Time to travel: 2 hrs 15 minutes by air from Houston to Belize City airport
2 hours by truck from airport to property
Departure time: 7:00 am CST
Arrival time: 11:30 am MST

6:00 am – wake up and repack our bags. Some of them are overweight so we have to shift things around. Between us we’ve got 4 50lb bags and 2 20lb bags plus the cat carrier and a knapsack.

7:00am – We caught the shuttle to the airport and got to our check in counter around 7:30am. The kitty was pretty good in the lineups. Once we checked our bags it was easier to get around.

Next we had to go through security, I took the kitty out of her carrier so they could x-ray it along with everything else and carried her with me through the metal detector. Everything was fine.

8:00am – Then we went to our gate to wait to board the plane. Luckily we only had 20 minutes to wait because she started trying to get out of the carrier and meowing.

That’s when we figured we should try the rescue remedy. A herbal flower essence that helps calm people and animals down. I tested it on Brad first, by spraying 2 pumps on his tongue. He said it didn’t have too much taste and it made his tongue numb. It seemed safe after a few minutes so we did 1 spray on the kitty’s tongue.

Then we petted her some more to calm her down and put her back in her carrier and boarded the plane. Her carrier fit under the seat but she was struggling around so much that she bit holes in it. Obviously the spray had not calmed her down.

Brad on the other hand, was almost asleep. Apparently it worked on him, I should have tried it days ago!

9:15am – The plane took off around and we arrived at 10:30 Belize time. The rest of the plane ride consisted of trying to calm down the cat and keep her from ripping holes in the carrier. I did get a chance to go to the bathroom and met a lady who does silversmithing, which is awesome because I do too, now I have a connection down here! We exchanged cards.

10:45am – Then we had to get through customs and “import” pixel to Belize. All in all it went smoothly. Brad had to pay duty on the new charge controller. I had all my vet certificates and permit for pixel and it cost $10 USD to bring her in. No quarantine!

11:00am – The seller was waiting outside to pick us up in our new truck. Brad and he loaded the luggage in the truck and I went to get a sim card for my cell phone so we could call the shipping company to find out about our stuff. It was $27 US for the card, and I got a $25 phone card for later. Since we can only get a signal from the top of a mountain at our place, we won’t be using it much. I can use skype on my iPhone to call Canada & US numbers for free. Well $2.95/mo for unlimited is almost free.

Then we left for the house. It took about 2 hours and we were there!

1:15pm – What a sight for sore eyes! We have 3 days with the sellers to teach us about all the systems and get the guard dog to accept us before they leave!

So we are here! More later.
